The Department of Fine Arts has made significant strides in academic and research development by offering carefully designed modules that reflect the evolving nature of art and its relevance in both historical and contemporary contexts. The curriculum also includes rich allied subjects such as History of Art & Architecture, Art Appreciation, Contemporary Art of Pakistan, Marketing, Advertising History and History of Western Art movements. These diverse modules support critical thinking, research, and artistic expression, empowering students to engage deeply with the academic and cultural dimensions of visual arts.

BFA 4-Year Professional Program (Morning & Evening Sessions)

The Department of Fine Arts offers a comprehensive 4-year BFA Professional Program in Graphic Design and Painting, available in both morning and evening sessions . The program is built around a learner-centered environment that fosters creative engagement, modernism, and professionalism . Our aim is to shape well-rounded, skilled designers, painters and art educators who are ready to contribute to the creative industries and the field of art education.

Applicants interested in the BFA (Graphic Design) and (Painting) program must have passed Intermediate (FA/FSc/ICS or equivalent) with a minimum of 45% marks, or A-Level/12th Grade with at least three subjects, either in the current admission year’s first annual examination or the preceding year. To uphold academic standards, admissions are granted strictly on merit , determined through an entrance test and a review of the applicant’s complete academic record.

BFA 4 Years (Hons) – Course Structure

Year 1 & 2

The first four semesters of the BFA (Hons) program are designed to lay a strong foundation for advanced learning in the field of Graphic Design & Painting. During this phase, students engage with a balanced mix of General education subjects, Distribution Courses and Subject Majors including EnglishPakistan Studies Islamic Studies, and Computer Skills, ensuring a well-rounded academic experience.

In addition, new undergrad policy reshaped academia and it core curriculum, students explore diverse disciplines such as Quantitative reasoning, Functional English, Art and humanities, and Natural sciences, which help broaden their perspective and critical understanding. The initial years emphasize a comprehensive introduction to key areas like DesignDrawing, and Computer Graphics . Students are also introduced to a wide range of subjects, from the History of Art to contemporary techniques and evolving trends in Film and Video, preparing them for deeper specialization in later semesters.

Year 3 & 4
The third and fourth years of the BFA (Hons) program focus on advanced learning and specialization, building upon the foundational knowledge acquired in the first two years. Year 3 deepens students’ understanding of core disciplines, enhancing their technical proficiency, conceptual development, and research.

In Year 4, students are introduced to a broader and more specialized set skills of courses such as Visual Communication Project DevelopmentMarketing, and Campaign Design. These subjects emphasize not only the aesthetics and philosophy of contemporary art, but also its commercial value and real-world applications in the creative industry.

As the program nears completion, students are encouraged to undertake internships to gain hands-on industry experience. The journey culminates in the Final Degree Show, a major highlight of the academic calendar that showcases student work to a wide audience—including faculty, fellow students, industry professionals, and visitors from GCU and other institutes. This exhibition serves as both a celebration of student achievement and a launchpad for future creative careers.
