INTRODUCTION

Literature is one of the important branches of Humanities. The humanities are academic disciplines which study the human condition, using methods that are primarily, critical and/or speculative. These are meant to provide the society with minds that can think deep as well as aesthetically.

At IAS Gujranwala Campus, we stress on the textual studies and focus on the holistic development of the students through classroom discussions, seminars and regular presentations. The growing demand of English teachers in our education system gives this discipline an additional attraction for the prospective lectures. The students with a good command on English Language are given preference in the civil services examinations as well.

Department Admission Criteria

The Department of English Language and Literature offers the following programmes: • BA (Hons) • MA (Evening Programme) The Department also caters to the needs of language proficiency and has introduced an English Communication Skills programme for all levels of students, teaching faculty as well as professionals.

MA English:

The writers included in the MA English Programme belong to several countries and eras and this gives a good picture of the occidental civilization. Some of the writers also hale from Asia and Africa. These writes are the masters of their craft and their works have a permanent value, excellence of from and emotional effect. The MA Programme thus provides a very good opportunity to learn language skills as well as have a good command on Western literary and cultural heritage. BS English (Honours) 4 Years Programme:

The four years programme of BS English (Honours) offered to the students who have completed their intermediate examination is designed to affect a holistic development of the students providing them with not only the skills and expertise natural to the subject of study at the bachelors level but also an exposure to several social sciences that are meant to prepare the honours students for multiple future job opportunities including competition examinations like PMs and CSS, careers in electronic media as well as teaching opportunities. It may be noted that the students who complete the honours degree programme are eligible for direct admissions to the M Phil programmes all over the country and abroad. ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The candidates for admission to MPhil English Literature who have less than 50% marks in MA English Literature and they have an additional MA Degree in ELT/ Linguistic are also eligible to apply.

BS English (Hons) 4 Years Program (8 Semesters) BS English Program We are offering an exciting new portfolio of Undergraduate courses designed to ensure that our students have the knowledge and abilities that they will need for their future careers. BS (English) Degree program is of 135 credit hours, and spread over 4 years with 2 Semesters in each year.
